To be presented in 2 parts, this is a walking excursion around my university - The University of Queensland at St Lucia, Brisbane, Australia.
The First Part talks about my route to UQ Centre, where my orientation welcoming ceremony was held, while the Second Part talks about the important places on campus. Have fun viewing !
A very sunny early morning indeed. The time now is 7am. Inhaling the early morning air gives me a little comfort, as I stroll towards College Road on the eastern side of Emmanuel. This route probably is the most scenic part of the university town, called St Lucia.
In just 3 minutes from College Road is the University Lake. The trees lined the walkway in an orderly manner. I can feel the tranquility almost instantly. And perhaps I'll go fishing here one day.
A majestic fountain rises above the surface of the lake. The continuous flow of water has considerably cooled the surroundings.
The other lakes nearby are somewhat smaller. Hahaha... they look like "kolam ikan" (fish ponds). And you can see birds everywhere, rubbish flies everywhere ... sigh.
This is the Eleanor Schonell Bridge, a dedicated bridge only for bus, pedestrian and cycle. Cars are prohibited. The bridge connects my university across Brisbane River to another suburb called West End.
My university is situated by the riverside. There is a "CityCat" ferry service that takes you to Brisbane downtown in just under 15 minutes.
Water-sports have never been on my mind. Or I would say that I'm totally ignorant about that sports, things like water-skiing etc. But who knows someday I'll be brave enough to try out ...
Australians love cricket and rugby. But I prefer playing soccer. I'll play soccer alongside them, and hopefully the batsman will be careful not to hit my swerving soccer ball lol !
This is my destination for today - the UQ Centre.
